RiO Clinical Information System To Be
Implemented At One Of Britain’s Key Primary Care Trusts
East Elmbridge & Mid Surrey Primary Care Trust has signed a
contract with CSE-Servelec Limited of Sheffield, to implement RiO, their
web based integrated care record system. The Trust has been using
CSE Servelec’s managed IT services for the past 5 years.
The Trust was looking for a system that would help to streamline
and coordinate existing working practices. RiO satisfies these criteria
and more, with a flexible design that is ideally suited to the multi-disciplinary
working environments of care professionals such as health visitors,
district nurses and therapists.
For community based healthcare professionals, RiO is a single source
of community and epidemiological information. Capable of crossing
organisational boundaries to support seamless care processes and
health promotion, RiO unifies primary care practice-based systems
and secondary care. Through its strict adherence to international
standards, the system will easily incorporated into the new NHS
National Integrated Care Records Programme.
RiO is a scaleable solution for PCT-wide deployment, integrating
easily with other internal and external systems to extend interoperability
across health and social care boundaries. As a web-based system,
RiO is accessible through the NHSnet private network. Secure firewalls
and encrypted security provide the opportunity for it to also be
available over the Internet. Individuals with rights of access will
be able to view up-to-date clinical information from any location
equipped with a telephone.
An additional advantage for GPs is on-line access to case records
for people who may not be registered at their practice, as part
of an out of hours service. RiO’s powerful reporting facility
also means it will play an important role in supporting the commissioning
and planning capability of PCTs, both now and in the future.
