MP learns how local IT company is helping to boost North East Derbyshire’s economy

NE Derbyshire MP Natascha Engel recently visited local company CSE Servelec to discuss the Company’s success and see first hand their rapid growth over the past 12 months.

Natascha Engel visited the CSE Servelec Group last Friday, 8th June, with a view to finding out just what it is that makes this company such a local success story.  Whilst meeting with the Group’s Managing Director, Alan Stubbs, Natascha was able to see for herself examples of the good work that the Group has been carrying out and discussed the challenges facing employers in the NE Derbyshire region.

The MP was given a tour of the Group’s headquarters and heard about the history of the Company which has been based in Eckington for 30 years and which currently employs over 240 staff, making it one of the largest businesses in the region.

CSE Servelec was founded in 1977 and this year celebrates its 30th anniversary.  Over the past three decades CSE Servelec has grown into a profitable and successful company with an impressive portfolio of clients, spanning five separate Business Groups.

During her visit Natascha took the opportunity to observe the Business Group’s activities, stating “I did not realise CSE Servelec’s expertise spanned so many key industry sectors.  It was very encouraging to find this level of technological innovation within my constituency “.

The Labour MP was brought up to speed with how CSE Servelec is progressing by members of the senior management team, including Alan Stubbs, David Henery - Managing Director of Scomagg Limited, the newest member of the CSE Servelec Group, and Phillip Court, Director of CSE Seprol.

Alan Stubbs said: “It is great to see how CSE Servelec is providing the expertise behind many high profile business solutions.   I believe this is testimony to the hard work and commitment shown by all the members of our team, demonstrating that the IT industry is alive and kicking in NE Derbyshire.

We are moving into many exciting new areas and are looking to employ more local people to help expand the business and boost the local economy.”

New projects have meant the Group has expanded considerably over the past 12 months, taking on new staff to help them meet demand for their highly specialised technical solutions, improving the range of expertise within the company.

As a high proportion of employees are graduate engineers, CSE Servelec has built a close relationship with the University of Sheffield, through placement schemes and graduate recruitment.

Alan Stubbs said “It is difficult to source senior staff, so we have established a good career progression programme.  In our experience, the best way to generate experienced personnel is to train them ourselves and promote internally.”
