Major SCADA Win for European Systems Integrator
CSE Servelec has won another major contract for the design, manufacture
and delivery of a new Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA)
System for Dolphin Energy's Eastern Gas Distribution System (EGDS)
project in the Middle East.
As part of the Dolphin Gas Project, one of the largest trans-border
energy projects under taken in the Middle East, the EGDS is a network
of gas distribution pipelines in the Eastern Region of the United
Arab Emirates. The pipeline is expected to bring up to two billion
cubic feet of natural gas a day from Qatar to supply the ever growing
needs of the UAE.
The contract, valued at £1.1 million, will see CSE Servelec replace
the existing EGDS SCADA system and appraise, recommend and approve
necessary upgrades. The new system also includes the upgrade of
server and workstation hardware at Dolphin’s Taweelah Receiving
Facilities.
The CSE Servelec solution will ensure 100% availability of the
pipeline, even under failure conditions, to guarantee the gas supply
is never interrupted. This will be achieved from the Main Control
Room (MCR) at Taweelah using CSE Servelec’s advanced, open distributed
SCOPE-Xtel SCADA software. In addition, an independent Backup Control
Room will be located at Al Ain, providing full emergency monitoring
and control facilities in the event of a major failure at the MCR
All elements of the system will be duplicated to enable duty/standby
operation, giving total peace of mind. A fibre optic based telecommunications
network will communicate with remote telemetry units (RTUs) at various
locations around the pipeline. This will provide interconnectivity
between the remote sites and the Operations Centres at Al Maqta,
Taweelah and Al Ain, allowing high speed data communications between
these sites. Flow, temperature and pressure data will be collected,
in addition to information for assistance with monitoring for fire,
battery management, cathodic protection and intruder alarms.
Replacement RTUs will be provided for 31existing RTU sites. These
will be based on the Kingfisher range of outstation equipment.
In addition to the contract award, CSE Servelec has also won a
Long Term Support Agreement for all Dolphin’s UAE SCADA operations,
including the EGDS SCADA system.
The Long Term Service Agreement, up to 30 years, provides a comprehensive
package of SCADA products and services including the management
of Siemens OTN telecommunications support agreement, and HIMA safety
systems support.
